Getting started

What happens in the free Arabic Learning Plan session?

We talk about your goals, current level, and schedule. You leave knowing the best place to start and what your next step should be.

Is the Arabic Learning Plan really free?

Yes. There is no cost and no obligation to join a cohort.

Do I have to enroll during the session?

No. The session is for clarity first. We want you to understand your options and decide whether Hiwar is the right path for you.

Is this for complete beginners?

Yes. Hiwar is built for serious adult learners, including people starting from zero.

What if I cannot read Arabic yet?

That is okay. We will help you decide whether Reading Bootcamp should be your first step before joining the live speaking path.

Academics

Do I need to know Arabic grammar first?

No. You do not need to memorize grammar charts before speaking. You learn useful Arabic through live practice, then learn the grammar that helps you understand and say more.

Is this Fusha Arabic or a dialect?

Hiwar teaches Fusha Arabic: the Arabic of the Quran, formal speech, education, media, and communication across the Arab world.

Are the classes live?

Yes. The main classes are live with native teachers. You speak, ask questions, and receive correction in real time.

How many students are in each class?

Each micro-pod has four students, giving every learner meaningful speaking time and attention from the teacher.

Is Hiwar just a set number of live class hours?

No. Your live cohort is the main learning path, but it is part of a complete support system covering reading, speaking practice, pronunciation, accent, accountability, and getting back on track when life gets busy.

What if I cannot pronounce Arabic correctly?

You receive live correction from your teacher. Makharij Labs help with how letters are formed through the throat, tongue, and lips, while Accent & Flow Labs develop rhythm, intonation, and natural connections between words.

Will I become fluent after the first stage?

The first stage gives you a real live foundation: speaking practice, structure, and momentum. Fluency grows through continued live learning and repeated use over time.

Who teaches the classes?

You learn with certified native Arabic teachers in a small, live cohort environment.

Schedules

I have a busy life. Will this feel overwhelming?

Hiwar is built for busy adults. Choose a rhythm made for your life: weekday daytime or evening options for women, and weekday evening or weekend options for men. The goal is steady progress, not overload.

What are the class times?

Class schedules vary by cohort and availability. We offer weekday, evening, and weekend options for men and women. During your Arabic Learning Plan session, we review the current schedules and help you find the best fit for your time zone.

Are men and women taught separately?

Yes. Men and women have separate cohorts and schedule options, so every learner can study in a comfortable, focused environment.

Can I start anytime?

No. Hiwar is cohort-based, so learners start with a small group on a fixed schedule. This helps the group stay connected and progress together.

What if none of the current schedules work for me?

Tell us during your Arabic Learning Plan session. We will review your availability and explain the current or upcoming cohort options that may fit best.

What if I miss a class?

Life happens. Your teacher and support team will help you understand the best way to stay on track and return to the learning path.

How much practice will I need outside class?

Expect to practise between live classes. The goal is not hours of homework every day, but regular practice that helps what you learn become natural.

International students

Can I join from outside the United States or Canada?

Yes. Anyone can join from anywhere in the world if the live cohort times work in their time zone. We help compare the schedules with your local time during your Arabic Learning Plan session.
